Two suspects of Delhi bomb blasts arrested

MUMBAI: Two suspects in October 2005 Delhi serial bomb blasts were arrested by Mumbai police on Wednesday for their alleged connection with banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

Firoz Abdul Latif Ghaswala (24), and Mohammed Ali Chippa (24), who were lodged in a jail in Delhi, were brought to city on Wednesday morning and produced before a local court that remanded them to the custody of Mumbai crime branch till August 28, police said.

Police has already arrested two persons namely Irfan Anjum Ali Sayyad (22) and Mohammed Najib Abdul Rashid Bakali (41) under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for their alleged association with SIMI.

Names of Ghaswala and Chippa came up in the interrogation of Irfan and Mohammed Najib, and hence have been brought to Mumbai for questioning, DCP Dhananjay Kamalakar of Mumbai crime branch said.

Ghaswala and Chippa have allegedly visited Pakistan clandestinely to undergo training in arms and explosives handling at Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT) camps, and investigations are being done to find out if their associates Irfan and Mohammed Najib have also undergone similar training, the DCP said.

Sources said that Ghaswala and Chippa are close friends of Raheel Sheikh, one of the key figures wanted in July 11 serial bomb blasts and who is suspected to be hiding in Pakistan.

The interrogation of two is likely to revolve around the role of Raheel in July 11 serial bomb blasts in commuter trains and finding out more SIMI members active in Mumbai, sources said.
