    Xiaomi today announced Surge S1, the company’s first in-house chipset. With the launch of Surge S1, Xiaomi becomes the fourth smartphone manufacturer in the world to create a chipset that has been designed and developed in-house. Alongside Surge S1, the company announced its newest smartphone, the Mi 5C, which is powered by the Surge S1 chipset.

    Priced at CNY 1,499 (approximately Rs. 14,600), the headset will be available in China from March 3 in Rose Gold, Gold, and Black colour options.

    Xiaomi Surge S1 SoC

    28nm HPC+ process, the  Surge S1 uses an octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor with a big.LITTLE design, incorporating four 2.2GHz cores and four 1.4Ghz cores. In the Geekbench benchmark, Surge S1 outperformed other chipsets in its range such as Snapdragon 625. It is also integrated with Mali T-860 MP4 GPU that uses up to 40 percent less power than the last-generation Mali GPU.

    Alongside Surge S1, Xiaomi also launched Mi 5c in a metal body with a 5.15-inch display with a resolution of 1080x1920pixels at a pixel density of 428ppi. The headset is powered by the Surge S1 chipset which is coupled with 3GB of RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage. The smartphone measures 7.09mm thick and weighs 135g.  

    Coming to the camera, the Xiaomi Mi 5c houses a 12-megapixel camera with a f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama, and LED flash. There is also an 8-megapixel front camera with a f/2.0 aperture.

    Other key specifications include a 2860mAh battery that supports fast charging, a fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button. and dual-SIM support for two Nano SIM cards.
