Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan should act in biopic on me: Saina Nehwal

Olympic bronze medallist and China Open winning shuttler Saina Nehwal on Wednesday said that a biopic should be made on her along the lines of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Mary Kom in order to promote badminton among the masses.

Launching her first badminton academy here, world No. 4 Saina said she would like to Deepika Padukone, who is daughter of former All England champion Prakash Padukone, play her role and Shah Rukh Khan play the role of her coach in the movie.

"Films such as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Mary Kom have done well in recent times. I also want a movie to be made which can help promote game of badminton in India," said Saina.

"See Shah Rukh is my favourite star, so he will have to be there in my movie, as a coach may be. But Deepika should be playing the lead role as she knows how to play badminton because of her badminton background."

The top Indian shuttler said she wants people to get inspired after watching the movie and start playing badminton. "I hope in the future we get many more badminton players," she said.

Talking about what Indian badminton needs, the 24-year-old Hyderabadi said that foreign coaches should train badminton players here, especially in doubles.

"We have good coaches here. But there will be no harm if foreign coaches are brought in. We can learn how they train in their countries," she said.

Asked if she aims to be world No. 1 in near future, Saina said, "Nobody can set the target to be world No. 1 because the top players currently are playing really well. Li Xuerui is also very strong. Next year would be crucial in terms of results as everyone would like to maintain their rankings and improve their games as it would just be a year to Olympics.

"So, I will not be paying that much attention to rankings and will be paying more attention to results and performance," Saina said.

Saina also predicted that India could get two medals in Rio Olympics 2016. "PV Sindhu is playing well and Indian women could win two medals in Rio," she said.

About her post-retirment plans, Saina said she has plans to get into coaching. "Yes, I would like to do it for my sport because badminton is obviously my first love. So, I would like to play at least for few more years and get better. Then I will see how I can help and whatever I can do for my sport, I would like to do it."
