Thousands of Mumbaikars were on Tuesday left stranded due to ongoing Ola-Uber strike and rail roko by job-seeking students on the Central railway line in the city.

Scores of agitated students demanding jobs in railways blocked rail traffic, including suburban services between Matunga and Dadar stations, causing difficulties to lakhs of commuters.

The students blocked the rail track at 7 am in the morning, forcing the railway to stop the suburban as well as express train in the affected section between Matunga and CSMT.

"There has been no recruitment since last four years. We are struggling from pillars to post. Over 10 students have committed suicide. We cannot let such things happen," a student who was part of the protest said.

Students shouting slogans against railways held placard in their hands demanding one-time settlement from GM quota and said that they demand jobs from the government.

Protestors from across the country are participating in the protest demanding jobs in railways.

They claim that until now everyone used to be included in Group D but now they have fixed at 20% quota which was mainly for the new lot.

Meanwhile, the app-based cab aggregators Ola and Uber have also gone on an indefinite strike called by the transport wing of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. The strike has been called to protest the low earnings of drivers operating cabs for Ola and Uber.

Office commuters, who use the app-based service daily, were in for a long wait while many were forced to return to home leading to huge crowd due to rail roko.

"We are running Up locals that are terminating at Kurla and returning as Special in Down direction," said Sunil Udasi, Chief PRO Central Railway.

Meanwhile, the BEST has announced special buses from Dadar and Matunga station.
