The city crime branch sleuths on Saturday arrested two persons for allegedly fleeing with a tempo containing electronic goods worth Rs11.16 lakh. The driver had gone to relieve himself when the accused seized the opportunity and fled with the tempo in the Vanrai area last month.

The arrested duo has been identified as Nilesh Patil, 26, a resident of Mira Road, and Kashinath Gharat, 31, a resident of Uttan in Bhayander.

According to the police, complainant Dayashankar Pal, 37, works as a tempo driver in a transport company. The said tempo ferries electronic goods of a showroom from Bhiwandi to Malad.

On November 30, as per the daily schedule, Pal took delivery of the goods from the showroom's godown at Bhiwandi and left for Malad. "In Goregaon, Pal stopped the vehicle and went to relieve himself. On returning, he found that the tempo was missing. He then registered a case with Vanrai police station in this regard," said an officer from Anti-Robbery & Dacoity Cell of crime branch.

According to the police, a few hours later, the said tempo was found abandoned and was seized. "Specific information was received that the suspects involved in the case would be arriving in Andheri (E). A trap was laid and they were apprehended. We are yet to recover the stolen property," said the officer.
