Chief minister Ashok Gehlot counted his government achievements towards tribals and farmers welfare while addressing a farmers rally in tribal district Dungarpur on Monday. Gehlot was on two-day tour in three tribal districts Banswara, Dungarpur and Udaipur and his rally is seen as poll preparations for the Lok Sabha elections due in April-May.

Congress, despite registering a victory in the general assembly elections, face challenges from regional parties like BTP (Bhartiya Tribal Party) and RLTP (Rashtriya Loktantrik Party), which gained handsome voter share in certain pockets of the state denting poll prospects of both ruling Congress and the opposition BJP.

The parties, particularly BTP, may again spoil poll equation of the grand old party in the tribal districts. Gehlot’s two days visit to the districts, hence, is being seen making ways for the old party in the tribals who remained traditional voters of the party. Holding a farmers rally in Dungarpur’s Kuan, he officially kicked off election campaigning for party mission-25.

When he spoke in the rally, he targeted BJP and noted his government’s sincere efforts for the upliftment of tribals and farmers, “...the previous BJP government came into the power with thumb majority but it failed to perform on the expectations. The priority of our government is tribals welfare. The tribals have been struggling for a long time and our government solved their problems taking firm steps. We are committed for the development of TSP (tribal sub-plan) area,” said Gehlot.

Gehlot also noted the farmer loan waiver announcement which his government made after coming into power. “We fulfilled the promise of farmers loan waiver and their loans will be waived off soon. Today, there is an atmosphere of hatred across the country,” said Gehlot.

Highway & schools soon: Gehlot

CM Gehlot assured the gathering that his government will soon complete Dungarpur-Banswara-Ratlam highway. Senior schools will be opened in all 11 panchayats of Dungarpur district providing an opportunity to tribal youths to get education in their area, announced Gehlot. Presently, none of the panchayat has senior secondary schools.
