Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh has landed in a controversy by claiming that the Muslim population is a threat to the country.

In an interview with News 18, Giriraj Singh said, "The growing population of the country, especially Muslims, is a threat to the social fabric, social harmony, and development of the country."

Giriraj Singh had last year slammed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bansali over the Padmavat (then Padmavati). "Does Sanjay Bhansali or anyone else have guts to make films on other religions or comment upon them? They make films on Hindu gurus, gods & warriors. We won't tolerate this anymore," he had said.

Singh is not new to controversy. In 2015,  he said that the difference between cow and goat meat was similar to the differnce between a sister and a wife.

During the Lok sabha elections in 2014, Singh had sparked the controversy by saying all Modi's critics should leave India and settle in Pakistan.
