Indian Oil Corporation has launched a new type of LPG cylinder for customers. It is called a Composite Cylinder, which has many advantages as it is lightweight and doesn't get rusted.

What is this cylinder made of?

The composite cylinder is made in three levels, with the first having a layer of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) on the inside. This inner layer is coated with fibreglass made of polymers. Its external level is also made up of HDPE. That is, these cylinders are made with utmost security. The LPG composite cylinder, which is in use now, is made of steel.

It is heavy as compared with the compact cylinder. This compact cylinder has many other features that are being given below part from being half the weight of a regular steel cylinder.

The composite cylinder weighs 5 kg and 10 kg. This cylinder is transparent, which lets you see the amount of gas left in the cylinder. This will help consumers plan their next refill by looking at the amount of gas. The composite cylinder doesn't get rusted and most importantly doesn't get damaged, making it safer. This cylinder has been designed according to the modern kitchen.

Where are these cylinders available?

Composite cylinders are currently available in 28 cities in the country, including Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Allahabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Darjeeling, Delhi, Faridabad, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Jamshedpur, Ludhiana, Mysore, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Sangrur, Surat, Tiruchirappalli, Tiruvallur, Tumkur, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam. This cylinder will soon be supplied to other cities as well.

How much will it cost to take new cylinders?

A security deposit has to be deposited in the gas agency to get the composite cylinder - Rs 3,350 for 10 kg LPG composite cylinder and Rs 2,150 for 5 kg cylinder.

Old cylinder to be replaced by new cylinder

Most importantly, you can get your old steel cylinder replaced with the new composite cylinder if you wish. If you're an Indane's customer, go to your gas agency  with your steel cylinder. Also, carry the subscription paper for a gas connection. The amount of money you spent on getting a connection to your old cylinder will be deducted from the price of the composite cylinder.

You will then get a Composite LPG cylinder by paying off the balance that will remain.

For example, if you have paid Rs 2000 for Indane earlier, you will have to pay Rs 3350 - 2000 = Rs 1350 for the Composite cylinder. This price is for a composite cylinder of 10 kg. If you want to take a 5 kg cylinder, you will have to pay Rs 2150 - 2000 = Rs 150.
