Ireland have opened their account in their opening game of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 as they beat the Netherlands for the first time in the history of the tournament. It was seamer Curtis Campher's day as his one over just changed the game and the men in orange couldn't recover from that.

The Dutch didn't have a great start losing their first wicket in the first over but Max O'Dowd ensured that the scorecard kept ticking and they were 50/2 in the ninth over.

After conceding 12 runs in his first over, Campher returned in the 10th over of the innings and bowled the first ball wide but came back well from then on as he took not one, not two but four wickets in a row. He first dismissed Colin Ackermann when the Dutch batter tried to pull it towards the fine leg but could only get it as far as the keeper's gloves. The umpire signalled it wide but the Irish team decided to for a review and the ultra edge showed a nick.

Campher then trapped Ryan ten Doeschate LBW on the next delivery and followed it by hitting Scott Edwards' pads as well. Again umpire gave it not out and Ireland reversed it with the help of DRS and Campher had his hat-trick.

Campher then got Scott Edwards to chop on as he became the third bowler to take four wickets in four balls in T20Is after Lasith Malinga and Rashid Khan.

Ireland lost their skipper Andy Balbirnie and Kevin O'Brien in the powerplay but 107 wasn't going to be enough unless one of the Dutch bowlers had a Campher-esque spell. Stirling played the anchor role as Gareth Delany just took on the Netherlands bowlers and played a quick knock of 44 runs off just 29 balls to help them get through to their first win and open the account.
