Film buffs have been eagerly waiting to watch Dhadak for more reasons than one. The movie is not only an official adaptation of the Marathi superhit Sairat (2016), but also marks the debut of Boney Kapoor and late Sridevi’s daughter, Janhvi. Ishaan, who impressed critics with his acting prowess in Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds, too, stars in this romantic drama. Moreover, the film has been helmed by Shashank Khaitan, who has delivered two consecutive hits — Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) — with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt.

Skip A Heartbeat

Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Zee Studios, the movie has created a lot of buzz ever since its trailer was released. Says Karan, “We will always be eternally grateful to writer-director Nagraj Manjule and Zee Studios for allowing us the audacity of recreating the exceptional Sairat. Janhvi, Ishaan and Shashank have worked passionately and respectfully to honour the legendary source material. Dhadak is a homage to Sairat from a group of beating hearts.”

Its desi flavour adds a unique appeal to it. Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios says, “Zee Studios believes in telling stories that resonate with the audience. It’s been an amazing journey from our Marathi blockbuster Sairat to Dhadak; we couldn’t have found better partners than Dharma for this film. We are excited to present Janhvi and Ishaan, and are hopeful that Dhadak, like Sairat, will win hearts worldwide.”

Calling The Shots

Shashank has shown his expertise at creating stories that are rooted in the hinterland. With two hits to his credit, it will be interesting to see how he has moulded the two newcomers.

Top Of The Charts

Apart from its powerful performances and heart-rending story, Sairat also had beautiful songs that are fresh in people’s minds even today. While two of its songs — Zingaat and Yad Lagla — have been recreated by music director duo Ajay-Atul for Dhadak, two new tracks have also been added to the album. The title track, which has Shreya Ghoshal crooning alongside Ajay Gogavale, is easily among the best romantic duets this year. Pehli Baar brings out the excitement and innocence of a young couple’s first love. Vaara Re completes the album that is trending on music charts.

Welcoming A New Jodi

It was obvious from the first look of the film itself that Janhvi and Ishaan make for a great couple on screen. The young actors seem super confident in front of the camera and already have an enviable fan following on social media. And their chemistry has been visible in the trailer and the songs that were unveiled later on. With everything going for it, it seems Dhadak is all set to create magic at the box office.

Produced by Karan Johar, Zee Studios, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta, Dhadak releases today.
