    A labourer was killed and three others were injured after a boiler at one of the factries located in Vatva GIDC area exploded on Thursday afternoon.

    The reason behind the blast, which also sparked a  blaze, was still being investigated at the time of going to press.

    Preliminary investigations, however, established that all the four men were working near the boiler when the blast hit them. They couldn’t  escape as they were trapped in the ensuing fire, witnesses said.

    The incident took place at around 1.45 pm on Thursday in Dhanlaxmi Industries, located in Phase 4 of Vatva GIDC area.

    As per an official attached to the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES), they were informed about the explosion by the owner of the factory, Gautam Patel.

    The factory manufactures colour dies. It was during the dying process that the blast happened.

    The fire service dispatched two teams with two firefighting vehicles to the scene of the blast immediately, but by the time the teams arrived, the fire was under control.

    Two of the victims, identified as Bunty Parihar, 26, and Mahendra Parihar, 43,  had already been rushed to a private hospital by their colleagues at the factory. And during the rescue operation, one more victim, Naresh Damor, 21, was rushed to the hospital. The fourth labourer, identified as Kalyan Singh Parihar, 24, was found dead from the site.

    As per the fire officials, due to the impact of the blast, all the four labourers sustained heavy injuries.

    MF Dastoor, chief fire officer, AFES, said, “It wasn’t a major fire that broke out after the blast. But due to the impact, four labourers who were working near the boiler were hit.”

    “While three of them sustained burn injuries, one died,” he said.

    Dastoor further stated that the reason behind the blast was under investigation.
