The school education department has declared a holiday for schools in the city on Saturday. This follows the Met department prediction that heavy rains, that brought the city to a standstill on Friday, will well continue on Saturday also.

Students had a tough time on Friday reaching the schools. Some of the schools declared a holiday in the morning itself, while some others called off the classes after reports of rains sending the traffic haywire. After flooded roads and uprooted trees made it difficult for even school buses to operate, some schools informed parents to pick their wards early.

Priyanka Rajani, principal of Vidyanidhi High school and junior college said, "We allowed parents who came early to pick their wards then itself. Teachers, however, stayed back till the last student was picked by his/her parent. We are awaiting the education department's intimation regarding the functioning on Saturday."

Echoing the sentiments of Rajani, Bina Gole, principal of Vivekanand Education Society, Chembur said, "Following the heavy rains, we declared a holiday in the morning itself for both morning and afternoon batches. Saturday also school won't function as the weather department has predicted heavy rains to continue."

Education Minister Vinod Tawde has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Saturday. Confirming the news, B D Phadtare, deputy director school education department said, "All schools will remain close on Saturday. We are calling every school to inform them."
