In a major relief for 112 families of Benhur Co-operative Society in the upmarket Lokhandwala complex in Andheri, who were given demolition notices by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for building illegal balcony enclosures, the Bombay high court on Wednesday directed the corporation to maintain status quo and not demolish their structures until a decision is taken on the regularisation plea.

The entire society was dragged into a legal battle last year after the HC was appraised about the corporation not taking action against them and singling out the petitioner Viren Jagani, who resides in one of the four multi-storey towers of the society. He had moved the court seeking action against all the society members who had built similar enclosures in their homes.
