Official meeting regarding same will be held soon
In a major move to promote tourism, the preparations are on to make Amber an iconic destination as per the plans of the ministry of tourism. A meeting regarding the same will be held soon on April 22-23 in which the detailed planning regarding this project will be made. The meeting will be attended by senior officials of the department of tourism, officials of the department of museums and archaeology. Sources in the department of tourism informed that the details are awaited from the union ministry regarding this but it’s for sure that many developmental works will be done in and around of the Amber Fort.
Union government had identified 10 tourist destinations for development based on the criteria of footfall, regional distribution, the potential for development and ease of implementation. Jaipur’s Amber Fort is the only place in the state which features in this list ‘Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project’.
The other popular destinations which share the same space with Amber are Tajmahal & Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh, Colva beach of Goa, Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh to name a few . Officials of the ministry of tourism informed that development of the iconic tourist destinations will be done under the “Swadesh Darshan” scheme and there is no separate allocation of funds for this project.
The state had already been sanctioned Rs 93.90 crores under this in the 2016-17 financial year and work in various parts of the state under this scheme is already going on at various places to develop various tourist destinations. Amber is already the most popular destination in the city at least. During the month of December only last year, it received more than 200,000 tourists. In fact, Development done under this scheme in Amber will not only benefit Amber but will generate revenue and opportunities for the city.
