Four years ago, when Sarika and Shankar, lost their one-and-a-half-month-old son mysteriously, nobody paid much attention to his death. Now, after the murder of 8-month-old Chirag, the family members say that they feel Sarika could have strangled him to death.

Sarika beheaded her eight-month-old son in Prem Nagar area of Outer Delhi in the wee hours on Friday. The woman first slit the child's throat, then kept him on her chest and fell unconscious. Police stated that they recovered a knife and scissors from the room. The mother also slit her wrist and throat.

According to the police, a call was received at 2:15 am regarding the murder of an infant. Chirag was at home along with his mother, who the cops claimed is mentally disturbed. Her husband Hari Shankar works as a vendor in the weekly market.

"I reached home around midnight as I had put up a garment stall in the market. I knocked on the door around 4-5 times but no one responded. Then I banged the door and the latch broke. I saw my son's head on the floor and the remaining body cut open on my wife's chest on the bed. The two were in a pool of blood," said Shankar.

The child was beheaded and his face was also disfigured. "The stomach area was also cut up and she had kept the remaining body on her chest. Sarika slit her throat and wrist and is undergoing treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi hospital. She is mentally disturbed and the family members stated that she was undergoing treatment, however, we are yet to verify their claims," said the officer.

After the death of the baby, the eldest daughter was sent to the grandmother's house, which is in the same lane. After Ananya was born, she also stayed with the grandmother.
