Can anybody ever forget Rishi Kapoor’s popular song ‘Paisa yeh paisa’ from Karz? The song at that time was hinted towards his rich lover Kamini. This very loved song has made its way once again into the movie ‘Total Dhamaal’ which stars Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Riteish Deshmukh, Jaaved Jaffery, Sanjay Mishra, Esha Gupta, Boman Irani, Rajpal Yadav and Johnny Lever in pivotal roles. The movie, which will see a cameo appearance of Aamir Khan, will also broadcast a song ‘Mungda’ with Sonakshi Sinha.

However, ‘Paisa Paisa’, which is the recreation of ‘Paisa Yeh Paisa’ is here and it is the very grand song where Indra Kumar had posed with the starcast of the film. The director has undoubtedly spent lavishly behind the song, showing everything in glitter and gold.

The song features many girls who could be considered item girls without actually getting the credit of being part of the song. The tunes of this song and the revamped version is almost good till Riteish Deshmukh enters the song and sings ‘Gulabi note jaise hoth’ which is followed by Arshad and Jaaved dancing on the lyrics ‘kudiyan te Bang Bang lagde’. This has got me, as a girl, extremely uncomfortable.

When on one hand the industry has been fighting for their rights and there is a movement like #MeToo coming in action, how did Indra think about adding sexist lyrics to the song? He has no rights to compare a girl’s lips to any note, because a girl isn’t meant to be calculated in money. If that wasn’t enough, Mr. Indra Kumar, why would you add lyrics like ‘Bang Bang lagde’ and make a situation unacceptable?

The situation continues with lyrics like ‘Day ho ya night paise wale te mobile ve bang vajde’. It is only till the original verses ‘Paisa yeh paisa’ commences that the song actually picks its beats. Indra tries to covering up by giving Madhuri her solo screen space, but that too isn’t working since it is just glimpses and not the best which we have seen of Madhuri.

‘Paisa Paisa’ is also a kind-of throwback to the last scene of ‘Dhamaal’ where all the greedy-for-money men end up donating their cash for charity. Here, like Sanjay Dutt in the previous franchise, Ajay Devgn is seen slapping Sanjay Mishra.

All in all, ‘Paisa Paisa’ is all about shimmer and shine and grandeur, but we are still trying to find where are the manners and decency to treat women the way they should be treated?
