Ace sprinter Dutee Chand, who has won laurels for the nations has revealed her future plans. The star says she always wanted to join politics and will do so after her athletics career.

“I have always wanted to join politics since childhood. My family has also been involved in grassroots politics, with my mother being the SARPANCH of our village,” Dutee tweeted on Monday.

However, she clarified that there is no plan to join politics as of now and will only do so after the completion of her career as an athlete.

“Now, I am focusing on my sprinting career. There is no plan to join politics now,” said India’s fastest woman.

Not just Dutee even accomplished wrestler Babita Phogat and her father Mahavir Singh Phogat had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Phogats joining the BJP was confirmed on microblogging site Twitter by the official handle of the party. Speaking at the event, Union minister Kiren Rijiju said the party was happy to induct the Phogats. He showered praises on Mahavir Singh Phogat, calling him a role model for the society. "The way he created champions from a small village, I laud his efforts," said Rijiju.

BJP gets more wrestlers in Phogats

Mahavir Singh Phogat was earlier a member of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which was founded by Dushyant Chautala in Haryana in December 2018. Phogat was made the head of the sports wing of the party.
