The film released on Thursday which was Eid-e-Milad an-Nabi and Ganpati Visarjan holiday in parts of India. Other than Chandramukhi 2, two Hindi films were also released on the same day, The Vaccine War and Fukrey 3.

Netizens are all praises for the climax in Chandramukhi 2 and declared it a “blockbuster” on day 1 itself. The performances of Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence impressed the audience who could not stop praising them and called the film the “perfect family entertainer”

Helmed by P Vasu, Chandramukhi 2 is a direct sequel to the 2005 hit Chandramukhi which starred Jyotika in the titular role and Rajinikanth as King Vettaiyan Raja. The sequel stars Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence in the lead along with Mahima Nambiar, Vadivelu, Subiksha, and Lakshmi Menon along with others in key roles.

Kangana Ranaut earlier during a media interaction opened up on comparisons with Jyotika and said, "I am a fan of Jyotika ma’am’s Chandramukhi myself. However, unlike before, I am playing the real Chandramukhi in this film. I am not the one who gets possessed by Chandramukhi. That’s the difference. My character will reveal why she became a ghost in the first place. Lakshmi Menon’s character is the one which is inspired by Jyotika Ma’am’s character. What I am doing in the film is playing the original Chandramukhi."

The song in the movie is composed by Oscar-winning composer MM Keervani. The film was earlier scheduled to hit the theatres on September 15, however, was postponed to September 28 due to some technical issues.
