Before the October 15 deadline for final squad announcement for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman, BCCI announced a change in the initially named 15, bringing in bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur in place of Axar Patel, who will now be with the team as part of the reserves along with Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar.

Apart from that, there were no other changes in the squad as the fans expected at least one more change in form of the inclusion of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been one of the highest wicket-takers in the UAE leg of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Chahal, who picked up just four wickets in the first half of the IPL in India wasn't in the best of the forms and hence had missed out on a place in the squad. However, in the eight games in the second half of IPL, Chahal picked up 14 wickets and was one of the heroes for RCB in the UAE along with Harshal Patel and Glenn Maxwell.

The fans suggested that Chahal should have been in the squad as they said that he did everything he could have done to put his name up in the mix for selection and were even more disappointed not seeing him as part of the reserves or even the handful of players selected as net bowlers. Some of the fans were disappointed for Axar Patel as well, who was left out of the main squad as he too has been in splendid form for the Capitals.
