UIDAI issues warning against fake emails, WhatsApp messages in view of latest Aadhaar scam

UIDAI alert on Aadhaar related scam: While technology has simplified tasks, it has also exposed us to significant losses. Despite our precautions, our earnings can end up in the wrong hands due to a simple mistake in online payments. Even with care, falling victim to these scams is possible, as fraudsters continuously devise new strategies. Currently, scammers are targeting Aadhaar card holders.

If you receive emails or WhatsApp messages asking for your documents to update your Aadhaar card, be cautious. Such messages might be part of a scam aiming to deceive you. It's best not to respond to these messages to avoid potential account wipeouts.

The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has issued a warning regarding this. They clarified that they never request citizens to share their documents for Aadhaar updates through WhatsApp or email. This warning comes in response to new scams that ask for personal information under the guise of Aadhaar card updates, ultimately leading to fraud victimization.

For your safety, the Aadhaar issuing body posted on X (formerly Twitter) that UIDAI NEVER solicits POI/POA documents for Aadhaar updates via email or WhatsApp. Instead, update your Aadhaar through the #myAadhaarPortal online or visit an Aadhaar center in person. You can also utilize the mAadhaar app on the Google Play Store for Aadhaar-related services.
