Argentina maintained their 100 percent record in the South American FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers as they defeated Bolivia 2-1 with goals from Jose Maria Carrasco and a late strike from Joaquin Correa. A late goal from Joaquin Correa helped Argentina come from behind to beat Bolivia 2-1 on Tuesday and maintain their 100 percent record in the South American World Cup qualifiers. Bolivia took the lead after 24 minutes when captain Marcelo Martins rose unmarked to head home a cross from the left. However, Argentina, who beat visitors Ecuador 1-0 in their opener last week, equalised seconds before halftime when a clearance from defender Jose Maria Carrasco hit Lautaro Martinez just yards from goal and flew into the net.

Correa got Argentina’s winner with a sweet left-foot strike 11 minutes from the final whistle as Bolivia suffered another defeat following their 5-0 thrashing away to Brazil last week.

The top four sides in the 10-team South American group qualify directly for the finals at Qatar 2022 and the fifth-placed side goes into an inter-regional playoff.

Brazil overcome Peru

Brazil striker Richarlison thanked the team`s medical staff for getting him fit to play after he scored in Tuesday`s 4-2 World Cup qualifying win over Peru in Lima. The Everton forward was carrying an ankle injury when he arrived in Brazil for qualifiers against Peru and Bolivia.

He managed a substitute appearance in Friday’s 5-0 win over Bolivia but was fit enough to start against Peru, scoring once and supporting Neymar, who grabbed a hat-trick.

"I’m very happy to be back after 11 months," he said of the long layoff caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic. "We worked very hard this week. Myself, even with my ankle trouble, I treated it morning, noon and night. I have to thank the medical department who worked hard every day to get me 100 percent for this game."
