Nationalist Congress Party demanded an FIR to be registered against BJP lawmaker Ram Kadam for his 'abducting girls' comment and to junk his post as an MLA, on Thursday.

Nawab Malik, the NCP Spokesperson, said that Ram Kadam, who is now known as 'Ravan Kadam' should be sacked immediately from his MLA post. "Entire Maharashtra is seeking actions to be taken against him. However, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also the Home Minister, has been mum on this. We demand Fadnavis register an FIR against Ravan Kadam and his subsequent arrest," Malik said.

Speaking on Kadam's apology, he said: "This half-hearted apology will not do. Our party's women wing workers and leaders had gone to Ghatkopar Police Stations to press for an FIR. However, the police are delaying the procedure by saying that they have not seen the video. We provided the video clip and other evidence. Now they are saying they will have to consult the legal department before proceeding with it," Malik said.

Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said that Ram Kadam's Twitter apology is not enough. "Kadam had insulted our daughters and sisters in public during Janmashtami functions. So he should also tender the apology in public. The several women had registered the complaints against Kadam but the police are not ready to take actions."

Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam also tweeted: "Dear CM Devendra Fadnavis, women all over Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai, are agitating against your MLA Ram Kadam for his anti-women statement. Despite being the head of the state you're keeping quiet and not taking actions either. Why? Are you supporting him?"

Meanwhile, the BJP leadership allegedly told Kadam to not speak to the media. Sources in BJP said that the party leadership made up its mind to initiate action against Kadam as a damage control exercise.
