In top news of the day on Sunday, February 9, 2020, the Novel Coronavirus continues to dominate headlines as the death toll in China due to the deadly coronavirus outbreak reached 811 with 89 new casualties on Saturday, the National Health Commission announced on Sunday. The number has now officially exceeded the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak that broke out in 2002-03. The virus had killed 774 people globally.

In this regard, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed solidarity with Chinese President Xi Jinping and the people of China over the outbreak of Coronavirus. In a letter written to Chinese President, PM offered India's assistance to face the challenge and offered condolences at the unfortunate loss of lives, sources said.

A day after the national capital voted for the Delhi Assembly Election 2020, veteran leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sanjay Singh expressed his doubts regarding potential malpractice before the poll results and questioned the Election Commission of India (ECI) in this regard. Sanjay Singh asked the ECI why the exact voting percentage was not released by the polling body on the same day.

Former leader of the erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh, P Parameswaran, passed away in the early hours of Sunday. The 93-year-old took his last breath at 12.10 AM. He was one of the senior-most Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) 'pracharaks' and the founder-director of the Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram. He was undergoing Ayurvedic treatment at Ottappalam in Kerala's Palakkad district, according to the sources.
