A day after the national capital voted for the Delhi Assembly Election 2020, veteran leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sanjay Singh expressed his doubts regarding potential malpractice before the poll results and questioned the Election Commission of India (ECI) in this regard.

Sanjay Singh asked the ECI why the exact voting percentage was not released by the polling body on the same day that the Delhi state assembly polls were conducted, pointing out that the voting percentage was released on the same day even in the case of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

"How much time it takes to release the voting percentage of 70 seats?" the AAP leader asked, raising questions on why it is being delayed only in the case of the Delhi assembly polls this year.

Earlier, too, AAP's Sanjay Singh had expressed his doubts regarding the polling body. In a video released on his official Twitter handle, he had claimed that an election official was carrying the reserve with him which should have been sent along with the EVM machines.

"Does the reserve not go with EVM? People caught hold of EVM in Saraswati Vidya Niketan School of Babarpur Legislative Assembly @ECISVEEP'' Singh had written.

In his second video, a bus carrying EVM was seen standing in the middle of the road and Singh said that it is clear proof that the EVM was mishandled and alleged that the machines being taken down in between the road. He expressed shock over the incident and said, ''How can anyone do that?''

The veteran AAP leader asserted that he himself had monitored the voting in every single Vidhan Sabha seat and demanded the EC to come forward and answer about the mishandling of the EVM machines.

Sanjay Singh, however, expressed ample confidence in the AAP returning to power in Delhi and said that the citizens of the national capital had given an answer to those who were trying to spread hatred and violence in Delhi.

Echoing his point, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had also expressed his surprise over the late release of the voting percentage by the polling body. "Absolutely shocking what the EC is doing. Why are they not releasing poll turnout figures, several hours after polling?" Kejriwal had asked.

The voting in the national capital ended at 6 PM on Saturday (February 8), however, due to long queues at some booths, more time was given so that those in line can exercise their rights.

Delhi's 70 assembly seats recorded a voter turnout of over 61% with minority-dominated constituencies in the Union Territory recording higher than average turnout.

While the AAP had fielded candidates on all 70 seats, the BJP and the Congress entered into electoral agreements with other parties.

While the BJP left three seats for its allies JD(U) and the LJP, the Congress had given four seats to the RJD considering the significant presence of Purvanchali voters or those who have roots in Bihar or eastern UP.
