The trailer of the upcoming Netflix show Guns & Gulaabs has created a sort of record that nobody expected. Two days before the show premieres on the streaming platform, the trailer has clocked 76 million views on YouTube, which many say is the highest ever for a web series trailer in India. Indeed, many trailers of some of the biggest shows India has seen don’t even have half as many numbers.

The most watched trailer of an Indian web series

A press note from Netflix stated that on Wednesday, the trailer of Guns & Gulaabs gathered over 75 million views on YouTube ahead. “Many are touting that this makes it the most-viewed Indian series trailer on the platform to date, a testament to the fan excitement around for this genre-blending series,” the note stated. A cursory check indeed confirms this statement. While film trailers routinely cross 100 million views on YouTube, Indian web shows are yet to breach the mark and Guns & Gulaabs has indeed broken new ground by becoming only the second web series trailer from India to even breach the 50 million views mark on YouTube.

Some other highly watched web series trailers from India

While no show’s trailer has seen as many views as Guns & Gulaabs has, there are a few others that have done quite well. The Family Man is a close second with 58 million views for its season 2 trailer. But every other show lags far behind. Among other high achievers are Maharani season 2 (49 million), Farzi (43 million), Delhi Crime season 2 (39 million), Mirzapur season 2 (36 million), Rudra (35 million), Aarya season 2 (35 million), Scam 1992 (24 million), The Freelancer (23 million), and Made in Heaven season 2 (22 million).

All about Guns & Gulaabs

Guns & Gulaabs is a dark comedy with some infusion of crime. Set in the 90s in a town near Delhi, the show is from the minds of Raj & DK, the creators of The Family Man and Farzi. With an ensemble cast including Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Adarsh Gourav, TJ Bhanu, and Gulshan Devaiah, the show takes viewers on a journey back to the '90s, where the enthralling and pulpy storyline unfolds in the distinct town of Gulaabganj. It premieres on Netflix on August 18.
