The Vaccine War teaser: Vivek Agnihotri shows intigruing glimpse of India's Covid-19 battle, sets up clash with Salaar

On the occasion of India's 77th Independence Day on August 15, 2023, Vivek Agnihotri announced the release date and unveiled the teaser of his upcoming film The Vaccine War, based on India's battle against the Covid-19 pandemic. Sharing the teaser on his scial media handles, the filmmaker wrote, "DATE ANNOUNCEMENT: Dear friends, your film #TheVaccineWar #ATrueStory will release worldwide on the auspicious day of 28th September 2023. Please bless us."

The intriguing teaser gives a sneak peek of Pallavi Joshi and Nana Patekar characters and shows a nurse carrying an infectious substance covered in a box in a scientific lab. Toued to be India's first bio-science film, it also stars Raima Sen, Anupam Kher, Girija Oak, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Sapthami Gowda, and Mohan Kapur in the leading roles.

Talking about the upcoming film the actor-producer Pallavi Joshi said in a statement, "The Vaccine War is a very special film that will narrate the real story of the vaccine war that our country fought together against the hazardous COVID-19 virus. As the teaser captured some essential moments from the film, we are eagerly excited to present the film to the globe and show the glory proudly of our country."

Vivek Agnihotri had conducted a poll on his X (previously known as Twitter) taking the suggestions from the audiences for the film's release date with the two options as 28 September (with Salaar) and 13 October (India-Pakistan World Cup match). As the first option received 82.7% of the 32.962 votes, the filmmaker has decided to release the film on September 28. 

This means that The Vaccine War will clash with Prabhas and Prashanth Neel's action-thriller Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire, which had announced its release date exactly a year before on August 15, 2022. Last year, Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files had clashed with Prabhas' Radhe Shyam on March 11. While the formed turned out to be a blockbuster, the latter was a box office bomb.
