Gadar 2 beats Baahubali 2 (Hindi), becomes second highest-grossing Hindi film in India behind Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan

With Jawan's release this Thursday, Shah Rukh Khan will make it difficult for his Darr co-star Sunny Deol to surpass Pathaan's record.

Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer Gadar 2 has surpassed the domestic earnings of the Hindi version of SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion on its 30th day since release and has now become the second highest-grossing Hindi film in India behind Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan.

The action-packed sequel earned Rs 1.45 crore on its fifth Saturday, i.e. September 10 taking its total net India collection to Rs 512.35 crore. The 2017 release Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, headlined by Prabhas, had earned Rs 510.99 crore from its Hindi version in India in its lifetime theatrical run. These box office numbers are from the entertainment racking portal Sacnilk.com.

Now, Gadar 2 is only behind Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham-starrer Pathaan, the action-packed entertainer which hit theaters eralier this year. The Siddharth Anand directorial, which marked SRK's comeback to the big screen as a leading hero after more than four years, had collected Rs 524 crore in India from its Hindi version.

With Jawan's release this Thursday, Shah Rukh will make it difficult for his Darr co-star Sunny Deol to surpass Pathaan's record. As Jawan's Hindi version has already collected more than Rs 175 crore within two days of its release and is running to packed theatres. Gadar 2 still has a few more days to earn Rs 13 crore more untill September 28, when Fukrey 3 and The Vaccine War will hit theatres and might lead to Sunny Deol-starrer being removed from the screens after is historic run. 

Set before the 1971 Indo-Pak war, the Sunny Deol film takes forward the story seventeen years after the events in the first part. Sunny Deol's Tara Singh crosses the border to rescue his son Jeete aka Charanjeet Singh, played by director Anil Sharma's son Utkarsh Sharma, in the blockbuster. Anil Sharma had also helmed the first part Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2001.
