Apart from the two iconic songs, Mithoon has also composed four original tracks for Sunny Deol's blockbuster Gadar 2. In an exclusive interview, Mithoon said that he didn't feel any pressure to recreate Uttam Singh and Anand Bakshi's songs from Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
From Bas Ek Pal's Tere Bin and Murder 2's Phir Mohabbat and Aashiqui 2's Tum Hi Ho and Half Girlfriend's Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga, Mithoon has always struck the right chord in the hearts of listeners with his soothing and melodious compositions. The music composer, lyricist, and singer has once again impressed the audiences with his soul-stirring soundtrack of Gadar 2.
For the Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel film, which has broken multiple box office records within four days of its release, Mithoon has composed four original songs and recreated the two iconic tracks, Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava and Main Nikla Gaddi Leke featured in the first part Gadar: Ek Prem Katha 22 years ago.
In a freewheeling conversation with DNA India, we asked the music composer if he felt any pressure while recreating these two songs, which are now making audiences dance crazily in packed theaters. Mithoon said, "Honestly, there was no pressure. Definitely, a sense of responsibilty when you pick up the work of a great artist like Uttam Singh ji and Anand Bakshi ji (composer and lyricist of Gadar). I didn't have any pressure because my intention was very clear. I just wanted to celebrate their work and pay tribute to their work."
"Also, I was doing it because it was a proper sequel and it was a creative requirement in the script itself so there was no guilt factor attached to it at all. I really enjoyed working on the melody and it was my decision to retain the voice of Udit Narayan ji and that has worked completely with the masses. I think it has played a very important role in bringing back the nostalgia for Gadar 2", the composer added.
Talking about how the director Anil Sharma picked him to compose music for Gadar 2, Mithoon stated that he asked the filmmaker for the film's narration and after hearing the story, he jumped in on the project. He said, "Gadar 2 happened because Anil Sharma ji was looking for a composer to score for the film and he felt that I had the depth and the gravitas to score for a music of that magnanimity. I felt very positive meeting him and his wife. I asked him for the narration because that's very important in the way I work. I had a narration and felt very connected to the story", adding that after hearing the story he immediately went back to his studio and composed Khairiyat, one of the four original tracks which he himself and Arijit Singh sung in the album.
Expressing his happiness on Gadar 2's massive success, Mithoon concluded, "It's one of the most iconic moments in my career when I am seeing that how the box office has been completely set on fire. I am in a very good space right now."
