In the world of cricket, Shubman Gill has emerged as one of the brightest stars of the year 2023. His remarkable performance during the second ODI against Australia showcased his exceptional talent, helping India secure a commanding 2-0 lead in their three-match series. Gill, along with Shreyas Iyer, played a pivotal role in India's victory, as they both notched up centuries that paved the way for a convincing 99-run win over Australia. Gill's contribution was nothing short of extraordinary, as he amassed a stunning 104 runs off 97 balls.

The 2023 season had witnessed Gill's meteoric rise, with the young batsman accumulating a staggering 1230 runs in just 20 ODIs. This incredible feat included a double century, four centuries, and five half-centuries. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the fact that no other batsman managed to cross the 1,000-run mark in the same year.

However, former cricketing legend Virender Sehwag believed that Gill had the potential to achieve even greater heights during that unforgettable match in Indore. He felt that Gill should have pushed himself further and aimed for a mammoth score, possibly reaching 160 or even 180.

Sehwag explained, "He secured his century today, but given the incredible form he's in, he had the opportunity to score 160 or 180. At just 25, he has the energy to do so. Had he achieved a double century, he wouldn't have tired out and could have excelled in the field as well. At 30, recovery becomes more challenging. It's better to make the most of this form and score big runs."

Sehwag didn't shy away from criticizing Gill for losing his wicket prematurely. With 18 overs still remaining in the innings, Sehwag believed that Gill could have pushed on to achieve his second double hundred.

"When you're in such incredible form and consistently scoring runs, it's crucial not to throw your wicket away. At the time of his dismissal, there were still 18 overs to go. With a bit more patience, he could have reached his second double hundred. After all, Rohit Sharma has scored three double centuries, and the pitch in Indore has witnessed such feats before," Sehwag remarked.

In the world of cricket, Shubman Gill's potential appeared limitless, and fans eagerly awaited to see how he would continue to redefine the boundaries of achievement in the years to come.
