A summer wardrobe often ushers in a flurry of soft pastels, whispering monochromes, breathable fabrics and floaty silhouettes. However, the 2019 spring canvas takes one off guard with many pleasant surprises. Think sunshine yellow, electric blue, parrot green and a striking rani pink. Designer Arpita Mehta’s new line airs the chorus of a vibrant summery season. “We are all accustomed to the all-pervading pastel floral ensembles, but this year, we can expect the colours to range in the vibrant spectrum. When it comes to fabrics, one can opt for the traditional cotton along with the roster of silks and georgettes. In terms of silhouettes, breezy and buoyant silhouettes that are comfortable and voluminous are perfect for the summer look,” says Arpita.

REFERENCE ANUSHKA’S STYLE

Recently, Anushka Sharma nailed the summer chic code by exuding an easy breezy vibe at the airport in Massimo Dutti separates at the airport. Light-eyed beauty Shraddha Kapoor was a vision in a ruffled Zimmerman printed maxi as she was photographed having dinner. It won’t be entirely off the mark to reference these pared-down Bollywood looks, which work for the oppressive and unforgiving Indian weather.

The onset of summer of 2019 heralds breaking the existing sartorial clichés and making a bold statement without compromising on comfort. Embracing individuality is key and that’s where fun accessories come into the picture. “It is very important to accessorise your summer outfits. I feel the ethnic cowrie shells have made a massive comeback,” Arpita adds. “Layering cowrie necklaces or opting for cowrie wristbands and anklets will make a cool statement and help you own every room you walk into,” adds Arpita.

With muted, natural and earthy tones also coming into focus this season, one should be looking at definitive fabrics like lace, organza, tulle, tissue, bamberg stain and paper silk. Designer Swapna Anumolu of label Mishru shares, “It is the season of colour palettes like muted pink, mauves, pink peacock and turmeric yellow, besides of course the Pantone shade of 2019 — living coral. These hues give a new level of elegance and femininity to the outfit,” says she.

ORGANZA OOMPH

In order to stand out in crowds, one can make a bold statement by teaming a pair of organza pants with bright printed tops. “This combination will look great and work really well for summer as it is very chic, easy to carry and comfortable,” says Swapna. Most importantly, it’s important to have fun with fashion and not losing sight of what works for your body type.
