Shreyas Iyer says IPL ‘toughest league’ to play after loss to MI

Mumbai Indians (MI) does it again as they break the jinx of only winning the IPL title on an 'odd' year. Now in 2020, Mumbai Indians finally snapped their sequence in grand style as they lifted their fifth trophy against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

From Trent Boult's magnificent opening spell, combined with Rohit Sharma's brilliant fifty in his 200th outing in the IPL, confirmed Mumbai Indians' status.

The Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer too played a captain's knock, but it could not help the side much. The young captain says that IPL is the ‘toughest league’ to play after his team's loss to MI.

Talking about being part of DC and how it feels, Shreyas said, "The IPL always amazes you, it's one of the toughest leagues to play. I'm overwhelmed to be part of it, and I'm really proud of my boys. The way they have played to reach the final, it's not easy. Winning the IPL would have been better, but we will see to it that we lift the trophy next year".

The batsman even thanked head coach Ricky Ponting and said he is a pleasure to work with. "Ricky, the amount of freedom he gives us is outstanding. THe way he motivates players is simply amazing. His team meetings and motivational speeches it quite incredible".

Iyer even thanked the fans who have supported them from home. He said, "I would like to thank our fans, and we're thankful for all the support that has been showered on us throughout the season". 

Shreyas Iyer, being the captain of the runners-up side collected a cheque of INR 12,50,00,000. The side lost by 5 wickets to MI. The Mumbai franchise are the only side to win consecutive IPL trophies since CSK in 2010 and 2011.
