In top news of the day, April 8, the Uttar Pradesh government announced that parts of 15 districts, including Lucknow and Noida, will be sealed off to stop the spread of novel coronavirus. 

These areas of the 15 districts have been identified as COVID-19 hotspots. The 15 districts are Agra, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar (GB Nagar), Kanpur, Varanasi, Shamli, Meerut, Bareilly, Bulandshahr, Basti, Firozabad, Saharanpur, Maharajganj and Sitapur. 

If an area has more than six cases, it will be considered a hotspot and that area will be sealed off. Only media, police and health workers will be allowed to come out and all other movements will be barred in these areas without curfew passes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday interacted with leaders of the political parties to discuss the situation arising out of the spread of coronavirus and the ongoing nationwide lockdown. 

Modi held a video conference with floor leaders of various parties, including the opposition, in Parliament to discuss the COVID-19 crisis.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday said parts of 15 districts, including Lucknow and Noida, will be sealed off to stop the spread of novel coronavirus as people residing in certain areas are not following the lockdown. 

The 15 districts are Agra, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar (GB Nagar), Kanpur, Varanasi, Shamli, Meerut, Bareilly, Bulandshahr, Basti, Firozabad, Saharanpur, Maharajganj and Sitapur. 

PM Modi hints extension of lockdown in interaction with floor leaders of political parties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday interacted with leaders of the political parties to discuss the situation arising out of the spread of coronavirus and the ongoing nationwide lockdown. 

Modi said that he has received suggestions from experts and all of them have recommended the extension of lockdown. He will hold a meeting with state chief ministers on April 11 where a discussion on the extension of lockdown will be discussed. 

773 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, highest till now: Health Ministry

The Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Wednesday stated that thee are a total of 5194 positive cases in the country, out of which 773 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours with 32 deaths.

"Till date total 402 people have been discharged, total 5194 positive confirmed case have been reported. In last one day 773 positive cases were reported. Total 149 deaths have been reported and around 32 people have died yesterday," Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secy, Health Ministry stated.

Centre asks states to ensure availability of essential goods during coronavirus lockdown by invoking EC Act

To maintain a smooth supply of essential items in the country, the Central Government has asked states to invoke the Essential Commodities (EC) Act 1955 to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential goods. 

In a letter to all state chief secretaries, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla said measures under the EC Act include fixing of stock limits, capping of prices, enhancing production, inspection of accounts of dealers and other such actions.

Ram Mandir trust unveils logo on occasion of Hanuman Jayanti

On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, the Shri Ram Janambhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the body that is set up to construct a Ram temple in Ayodhya, released its official logo without any fanfare, it said in a statement.

The tri-coloured logo sports a sun that encircles an image of Lord Ram and Sanskrit text below it that says "Ramo vigrahavan dharmah" (Lord Rama is the embodiment of religion). Lord Hanuman has also found a place in the logo. The colours used in the logo are red, yellow and saffron.
