Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency polled in the 4th phase during the General elections 2019. Here is the breakdown of how the candidates fared

Final update:

Satabdi Roy defeated BJP's Dudhkumar Mondal by 88924 votes.

At 8.45 PM, TMC's Satabdi Roy is ahead by 89 thousand votes against BJP's Dudhkumar Mondal.

Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency profile:

When cinestar Satabdi Roy contested from Left citadel of Birbhum in 2009, few would have given her a chance. But she surprised political pundits by winning comprehensively against Braja Mukherjee winning by a margin of over 60 thousand votes from a seat which the Left had retained for 38 years.

Ten years later, Satabdi Roy is a firm favourite to complete a hattrick from Birbhum. Even her opposition has few things to say about her use of MPLAD funds for the constituency, which is one of the highest in the country. With the able support of Birbhum TMC chief Anubarata Mondal, Satabdi has increased her clout considerably and will hope to win in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

In 2014, Satabdi won by a margin of 67 thousand votes over nearest CPI(M) candidate. The assembly segments under Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency are: Dubrajpur, Suri,Sainthia, Rampurhat, Hansan, Nalhati and Murarai .
Except Hansan,TMC won all the assembly seats in 2017. Hence the poll dynamics is skewed towards TMC.  However, the opposition parties are not giving up without a fight. Many believe that in the panchayat election last year, votes were looted and those couldn't exercise their democratic rights will be out with a vengeance this time around.

With Congress and Left losing steam, BJP has emerged as a strong opposition force. The party has taken a punt by nominating Dudhkumar Mondal, who is an able organiser but is not known to be in best terns with Birbhum BJP leadership. Dudhkumar who lost from Rampurhat Assembly seat is the ideal foil for Anubrata Mondal, believes BJP.However it remains to be seen whether he gets full backing of the local leadership. \

Left has fielded Dr Rezaul Karim. Once invincible during Ramchandra Dome's tenure, Left organisation is a pale shadow of its past glory. Still Rezaul is hopeful of good performance claiming there is anti-incumbency against TMC. Congress has fielded Imam Hossain. With heavy attrition expected in Left and Congress votebank, BJP is likely to be the major gainer. Will that be enough to challenge Satabdi Roy? The voters will decide when they cast their votes on April 29.
