IMD issues orange alert in Delhi for Wednesday, warns of bad weather, disruption of traffic

For Wednesday, in Delhi, the IMD issued an "Orange" alert, a "yellow" for Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, and a "green" alert for Friday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning and put the city of Delhi under Orange alert on Wednesday. IMD has said that there is a possibility of bad weather, waterlogging, and disruption of traffic. 

For Wednesday, the IMD issued an "Orange" alert, a "yellow" for Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, and a "green" alert for Friday.

What do IMD colour codes mean?

Green: All is well 

Yellow: Critically bad weather which could get worse and disrupt day-to-day activities 

Orange: Possibility of bad weather, waterlogging, and disruption of traffic.

Red: Extremely bad weather, loss of power,  disruption of traffic, and risk to life.

Rains lashed parts of the national capital on Tuesday bringing relief from the heat.

Delhi Rains on Tuesday 

Safdarjung Observatory - 3.6 mm of rainfall till 5:30 pm 

Lodhi Road - 1 mm  of rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm

The Ridge area - 17.6 mm of rainfall 8:30 am and 5:30 pm

Noida - 2 mm of rainfall 8:30 am and 5:30 pm

Pitampura - 7mm of rainfall 8:30 am and 5:30 pm

IMD predicted thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain over parts of the Delhi-NCR region today. "Thunderstorms with moderate to heavy intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi ( Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Kanjhawala, Rohini, Badili, Pitampura, Mundaka, Punjabi Bagh), Charkhi Dadri (Haryana)," the IMD had tweeted. 

Earlier this month, Delhi recorded the highest rainfall in September in the past 19 years. IMD senior scientist RK Jenamani had said that rainfall that occur on September 1 was the highest rainfall that Delhi recorded in September in almost two decades.
