After a sensational comeback in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Ravichandran Ashwin once again demonstrated his prowess in the shortest format, securing his position in India's T20 World Cup squad. Nevertheless, the prospect of his return to the 50-over format seems dim, as the off-spinner finds himself absent from the selectors' plans for the upcoming ODI World Cup this year. When probed about his omission from the one-day format, particularly with respect to the World Cup, Ashwin shared his philosophy of refraining from dwelling on matters beyond his control. In a recent conversation, he voiced his perspective on the matter.

The query regarding his absence from the ODI World Cup selection didn't appear to Ashwin. He calmly replied, "I don't allow myself to ponder over such matters, as the team's composition lies outside my sphere of influence.

Elaborating on his approach, Ashwin explained, "I made a conscious decision long ago to distance myself from concerns that I cannot directly impact. My life and cricketing journey are currently characterized by positivity, and I'm committed to nurturing that outlook.

Addressing his attitude towards unfinished business, the 36-year-old asserted, "My focus rests on the present day; I harbor no lingering goals. However, I must admit, witnessing India clinch the ODI World Cup once again holds a special place in my desires, irrespective of my involvement on the field.

During the interview, the veteran off-spinner was reminded of a prior statement where he had hinted at contemplating retirement. Reflecting on that comment, he clarified, "There's a distinction between various factors. My consideration of retirement didn't arise due to injury alone. While that played a role, I was also grappling with uncertainty regarding my career's trajectory and my capacity for recovery. It's easy to embrace negativity during such moments. I held doubts about my resurgence. I'd like to clarify that those were fleeting thoughts. Presently, I'm satisfied with my bowling, batting, and the wealth of experience I've gathered. I approach each day as it comes.

He also expressed that "The post-Covid era lead by continuous cricketing engagements within bio-bubbles. However, the present period offers me an authentic opportunity to pause, reconnect with club and first-class cricket, and subsequently gear up for the upcoming challenges, particularly the South Africa series scheduled for December.
