More and more schools in the city are going green. Right from conserving water to rainwater harvesting to recycling paper, these schools are doing their bit to promote the environmental cause.

Students at the Canadian International School have started a green club to spread awareness about the issues affecting the balance of the environment.

“Students from class 9 and above take part in such initiatives. Our science projects are designed in such a way that they find solutions to some of those issues,” said Swetha Sastri, executive director of the Canadian International School.

Innisfree House School in JP Nagar makes sure that its students understand the importance protecting the environment. “Students of class 7 are asked to check if all the water taps on the campus are closed properly. They also make placards on the issue and put them in places allotted,” said Rajeshwari Reddy, coordinator, science department, Innisfree House School.

Students at the school are also involved in e-waste and paper recycling initiatives. “This is done in association with an NGO. Bins are kept to collect e-waste across the school and the NGO take them away for recycling,” she said.

Trio World School has undertaken different projects related to the green cause. The school initiated a “seed ball” project last year. Instead of raking and condition the soil to plant seeds, students were asked to throw seed balls at set intervals.

They were taught various easy methods of gardening  as part of the project This year, the school has started a paper recycling project.

Waste papers are used either for internal re-use or are collected by external recyclers. Money made from this is used to help the local community.
