Marcus Stoinis had revenge on the back of his mind when he  came out to bat for Delhi Capitals against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020 clash in Dubai. In the Twenty20 International against England in Southampton, Stoinis had struggled against Jordan and he managed to score just two runs off four balls in that match. Australia lost by two runs and they went on to lose the T20I series 1-2. In the game in Dubai, Stoinis, battle-hardened by the lessons of England got the better of Jordan.

In the 18th over, he signaled his intentions with a six and a four off Jordan and upped the carnage with three boundaries off Sheldon Cottrell in the 19th over. The destruction was complete in the 20th over when Stoinis blasted two sixes and three fours in an over that went for 30 runs. Delhi Capitals managed 57 runs in the last three overs and they had a good total in hand.

The six international games that Stoinis had in England prepared him technically and made him aware of the situation in which Jordan was supposed to bowl. “A lot of bowlers are trying to bowl wide to me these days, so I've sort of done work on that stuff, try to hit in different areas but still stick to my strength which is hitting straight,” Stoinis replied.

Rescue with both bat and ball

Having taken Delhi Capitals to a competitive total with the bat, Stoinis had to even chip in with the ball after Ravichandran Ashwin suffered a dislocated shoulder while trying to stop a ball. Stoinis had to fill in the three overs left in Ashwin’s spell. At the other end, Mayank Agarwal was playing a superhuman knock and had blasted 89 off 60 balls.

In the final over bowled by Stoinis, Agarwal hit him for a six and then was lucky that Shreyas Iyer dropped a catch. However, in the last two balls, Stoinis kept his cool and managed to take two wickets in two balls to take the match into the Super Over.

“It's a weird game, sometimes the luck goes your way, but it's easy to become the villain from the hero. So, it's important to enjoy the good days. I try to close down the areas where the bowlers can bowl, and it worked today,” Stoinis said.
