India's Mohammed Siraj on Tuesday, September 20 achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the world's number-one ODI bowler, according to the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Siraj's ascent to the top spot involved a significant leap of six positions, surpassing his previous ranking of seventh in the ODI rankings. In this impressive climb, Siraj overtook Australia's Josh Hazlewood.

Siraj's exceptional performance in the Asia Cup played a pivotal role in his rise to the summit. His spellbinding figures of 6/21 in the tournament propelled him to the number-one position. Hailing from Hyderabad, Siraj concluded the competition with an outstanding record of 10 wickets at an average of 12.2. This remarkable achievement allowed him to surpass the likes of Hazlewood, Trent Boult, Rashid Khan, and Mitchell Starc.

Additionally, the Afghan spin duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid also witnessed improvements in their rankings, securing the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. They were the only other players within the top 10 to experience an upward trajectory.

Beyond the top 10, South Africa's Keshav Maharaj made significant strides following his return from injury. Maharaj played a crucial role in the Proteas' triumph, becoming only the fifth team in history to win a five-match ODI series after losing the first two games.

The left-arm spinner's remarkable figures of 4-33 in the fifth ODI contributed to his tally of eight wickets in the series, achieved at an average of 16.87 per wicket and an economy rate of just 4.07 runs per over. As a result, Maharaj currently occupies the 15th position, a remarkable improvement of ten places from his previous career-high ranking.

Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa has made a significant leap in the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings, securing a spot in the top 10. This remarkable achievement follows his awe-inspiring performance against Australia in the fourth ODI, where he delivered an all-time destructive knock.

Klaasen's exceptional innings in Centurion saw him score an astonishing 174 runs at a strike-rate of 209.64, surpassing any previous record in ODI history. Not only did this outstanding display of skill contribute to South Africa's resounding 164-run victory, but it also propelled Klaasen an impressive 20 places up in the Men's ODI Batting Rankings. As a result, he now holds the ninth position in the rankings.
