India suffered a big loss against New Zealand in the fourth ODI of the 5-match series after they were bowled out for just 92 runs in 30.5 overs on Thursday.

India's top batsmen added just 30 runs between them as India lost by 8 wickets. The lack of experience in Indian middle-order was highlighted as India suffered an collapse after a rare failure by the openers.

In the absence of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, Shubman Gill, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadav and Dinesh Karthik failed to steady the innings. The collapse showed the importance of Kohli and Dhoni.

Sunil Gavaskar highlighted the point saying the team missed MS Dhoni in the fourth ODI.

“His (MS Dhoni) experience comes in very handy, of course, the fact that he has got so much experience, he can pace his innings. If wickets have fallen early, then MSD is a kind of a player who will make sure that he hangs in there and accelerate towards the end of the innings. So yes, I think experience comes in very very handy no question about it. If a batsman at the other hand sticks around with him, he will add valuable runs for the team,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

However, Gavaskar added that India should be patient with the debutant Shubman Gill who he could only muster nine runs off 21 deliveries. The former Indian captain said that Shubman is one for the future and that India should be patient with him.
