In 1977, when he was 22 years old, Ajay Piramal started working at his family's textile business. He seized control of companies and built a vast pharmaceutical empire. He expanded the company. He sold Abbott Labs his formulas in 2010 for $3.8 billion. His sister-in-law Urvi Piramal is the owner of Peninsula Land, a real estate business. She manages the business under the Ashok Piramal Group's auspices.
