Universities should stress on the ethics of journalism and maintain close links with media houses to help their students emerge as true professionals. This was the message conveyed by a media seminar held at the Gyana Jhyothi auditorium in Central College here.
“Train your students in the ethics of journalism” said Jayasheel Rao, former editor of Prajavani.
Jayaram A, former resident editor of Hindu, called for holistic training in education and implementation of journalism as an interdisciplinary subject in universities.
Gautam Machaiah, senior vice-president of Zee network, called for partnership between media houses and journalism institutes for helping students with practical training.
Teachers had a few suggestions. They urged the Media Academy to set up a committee to select students and teachers for internship. They also wanted the internships to be graded by the media houses.
