Ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who scripted history by winning India's first ever gold medal in athletics at Tokyo Olympics has turned into a sporting sensation for the billion-plus Indian population. 

Chopra's stellar expoits at the Tokyo Games have brought him instant fame and recognition among his fellow countrymen and his popularity on social media is on an all time high. Known for hurling the javelin at stupendous distances close to 90ms, Chopra is also highly popular among the youth for his signature long hairstyle. 

A social media video of the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist has created quite the frenzy after going viral among netizens. The video dates back to a couple of years when Chopra shot into instant fame after becoming the world champion by shattering the world record with a mammoth 86.84m throw in Poland. 

When Neeraj was honoured for his exploits at the Indian Sports Honours Awards, Chopra who used to sport  a Dhoni-lookalike hairstyle was asked by the show presenter as to who was his inspiration behind sporting those well identified locks.

On being further questioned over whether his long locks were inspired by Bollywood's highly popular actor Shah Rukh Khan or Indian cricketer Ishant Sharma, Chopra had a rather interesting response but a reply which had bore some conviction, “Neither."

"Koi nhi hai ji! Main khud hi apne baal lambe rakhta hun (No inspiration. I like keeping my hair long)," he said.

Neeraj had also requested the anchor to ask him questions in Hindi so that he could comprehend them better and answer back properly.

Neeraj was asked how did he take to the sport of javelin to which he responded in Hindi Hindi, “God decided it for me. I used to play different sports in my village (Khandra). But once I went to the ground and saw seniors throwing the javelin in the air, I joined them. I did not even know what javelin is. It started just like that and now I’m here in front of you.”
