Four suspected Bangladeshi nationals were arrested on charges of applying for passports on the basis of forged documents, a police officer said on Friday.
"The four youths were arrested after being informed by the regional passport office here yesterday. We have sent their credentials along with photographs to the Bangladesh High Commissioner's office," Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyabrat Bhoi told PTI.
Bhoi, however, said the police are yet to confirm their nationality.
The four youths were trying to secure passports by showing fake identity cards mentioning they belonged to Balugaon and Banapur in Khurda district, he said.
The four have confessed before the police that they entered India after crossing the border. They had planned to travel to Saudi Arabia with the help of Indian passports.
The arrested persons were remanded to judicial custody.
