The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will not charge the customary Rs. 50 cost for online Aadhaar updates till September 14. This indicates that Indian citizens are free to update their contact information, including name, address, gender, date of birth, mobile number, and email, online.

Notably, an individual will still need to visit an Aadhaar enrollment facility and pay the necessary cost to change their photo, iris, or other biometric information on their Aadhaar card. This is because biometric updates call for fingerprinting, iris scans, and other biometric data, which can only be done with the biometric scanning equipment found in enrollment centres.

Why is it essential to update your Aadhaar card?

  • To enhance the government's services associated with Aadhaar.
