MUMBAI: Angry at the allegations of corruption against Revenue Minister Narayan Rane in the Kurla-based Mukand Ltd’s land deal, Congress workers came to blows with Shiv Sena workers at several places across the city.
Bhandup (10am): At 10am near Bhandup railway station, Sena activists abused and manhandled Congress worker Madhukar Ghag (51). They also raised slogans against Narayan Rane. Three Congress activists - Ramdas Nalawade(38), Mohan Chetvankar (26) and Vittal Parab (29)- sustained minor injuries.
The police registered a case of riot and booked 50 Sena activists, including Ashok Patil, Ramesh Korgaonkar, Baba Kadam and Shehlata Dalvi (all corporators) and Vijay Parab (up shakha pramukh).
Bandra (6pm): The Bandra police arrested Shiv Sena leaders Suresh Dubey (38), Mumbai vibhag pramukh, Pramod Mahadik and shakha pramukh Sunil Jadhav for violating prohibitory orders and raising slogans against Narayan Rane.
Later, they were released on a personal bond of Rs3000 each. One Sena leader Sandeep Mithakar is still wanted.
Juhu (6.25pm): The Juhu police registered a case against 24 Shiv Sena activists including Ganapat Mahadik up vibhag pramukh), Sunil Daagade shakha pramukh, Ramesh Jadhav (office-bearer) and Swati Ghosalkar at DJ Road, Vile Parle for violating prohibitory orders and raising slogans against Rane. All are absconding when reports last came in.
Worli (1.15pm): Four Rane supporters — Rajesh Hatale, Shekhar Nigavarge, Shailesh Berade and Javed Khulmi- were arrested for throwing stones at Shiv Sena shakha no 56 at Worli Naka. They carried swords and hockey sticks and broke the shakha board. Sena activist Vinod Kada (25) sustained a head injury. Search is on for 25 other Rane supporters.
Rane said, “I’ve all records of Matoshree deals. The Sena should know that I was their Revenue Minister. I know how the Sena leadership brought pressure on me to sign the land deals.”
