A film about India and Indian sentiments is making waves on the international market, and it was only a matter of time before the film opened in cinemas across the nation.
Slumdog Millionaire, is an English-language film about a slum-dweller who goes on to win major prize money on cult game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Starring actors Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan, the film will come to Indian screens in January. What's more, there will be a Hindi version too, Slumdog Millionaire: Kaun Banega Crorepati.
"In keeping with Fox Star studio's commitment to produce and distribute world-class local language films, we will release Slumdog Millionaire in January," says Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios, India.
The film, an adaptation of Vikas Swaroop's Q And A, is directed by Danny Boyle, who has directed films like Trainspotting and The Beach. Shot extensively in the slums of Mumbai, and in Juhu, it has a mix of an English and Indian cast.
Slumdog opened in the US three weeks ago, and garnered the highest per screen average in its first week. It also received rave reviews at the Telluride and Toronto film festivals. Suffice to say, its release here is being looked forward to.
