Pria Kataria Puri stands in sharp contrast to her contemporaries. One look at her designs, you will find an amalgamation of oriental and western ideas. Giving special significance to vintage prints and fine embroideries, her outfits are undoubtedly modern in style.

“Bangalore is a very big market for us. Apart from the fact that it is very cosmopolitan, it has the right mix of modern and Indian ideas. Being part of the city’s fashion week makes it even more a delight,” begins Pria. The collection she will be showcasing is inspired from Marrakech, the city of Morroco. “Often, called as the red city, Marrakech has a rich cultural heritage. My resort line for the winter festive season is a collection of kaftans, tunics, saris, dresses and more. With prints being my forte, the designs are inspired from Marrakech tusslas and mirror works,” explains Pria.

Having showcased her collection all across the world, she says that fashion is the same globally! “I think fashion is the same everywhere.  It doesn’t matter whether you are a celebrity or not, everyone has the urge to look good. It’s only the designs and the creativity of an individual that differs,” she explains.

Talking about the Indian fashion scene, she says, “The number of fashion designers that are churned out every year is growing in rapid number. Earlier, people used to take cues from senior designers and apply them in their own creations. But it’s great to see the newer lot cutting an edge for themselves.”

However, on the other side, she adds, “Fashion is a serious business today. With Indian fashion being the fastest growing industries, there needs to be some improvement in the retail sector as well. There is no loyalty to the designers. I hope to see advancement in retail as well.” With plans of venturing in the men’s line and restaurant business, Pria seems all geared up for the fashion week.
