In a fresh political row sparked in Tamil Nadu, chief minister MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin sparked a major controversy when he made certain remarks about the ‘Sanatan dharma’, comparing it with the likes of malaria and dengue.

During a public address, Udhayanidhi Stalin said that the Sanatan dharma should not only be opposed but “eradicated” from the country, calling the religion “against social justice and equality”,  causing a massive uproar in Tamil Nadu and south politics.

As quoted by ANI, MK Stalin’s Udhayanidhi son said, “Few things cannot be opposed, that should be abolished only. We can't oppose dengue, mosquitoes, malaria or corona. We have to eradicate this. That's how we have to eradicate Sanatana.”

The political leader further said, “I thank the organisers of this conference for giving me the opportunity to deliver a special address. You have kept the name of the conference as 'Sanatana Abolition Conference' rather than 'Anti-Sanatana Conference', I appreciate that.”

Soon, many political leaders from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and several right-wing groups expressed their outrage at the statements. However, Udhayanidhi said that he backed his words, clarifying that he never asked for a genocide of people following Sanatan Dharma.

“Sanatan Dharma is a principle that divides people in the name of caste and religion. Uprooting Sanatan Dharma is upholding humanity and human equality. I stand firmly by every word I have spoken. I spoke on behalf of the oppressed & marginalized, who suffer due to the Sanatan Dharma,” the DMK leader wrote on X.

Replying to BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya’s tweet, Udhayanidhi said, “I am prepared to confront any challenges that come my way, whether in a court of law or the people's court. Stop spreading fake news.”

The DMK leader said “bring it on” to any legal challengers regarding his statement, staying firm on his comments on the Sanatan dharma. Stalin reiterated in his tweet, “I will say it today, tomorrow, and forever: Our resolve to stop Sanathana Dharma from the Dravidian land would not reduce even a bit.”
