The special cell of Delhi police on Friday arrested a 27-year-old Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Sajjad Ahmed Khan, a close aide of Pulwama attack mastermind Mudassar, from the Red Fort area. The accused has been remanded NIA custody till March 29 by a local court.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought Khan's custody for 10 days from Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Syal. Advocate MS Khan, appearing for Sajjad Khan, opposed the agency's demand.

"Sajjad was living in disguise as a shawl vendor and was a very close associate of Mudassar Khan, one of the main perpetrators of the Pulwama terror attack and was in regular touch with Mudassar before and after Pulwama terror attack and it is also suspected that he was involved in the attacks," said DCP (Special cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah.

NIA has recently registered a case in which the arrested JeM cadre, Sajjad, along with Mudassar Khan was named as accused and his two slain brothers were Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists.

Police said that Sajjad Ahmed Khan a resident of Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir was been specifically sent to Delhi by Mudassar, to establish a sleeper cell of JeM and to carry out reconnaissance of important targets and to set up a hideout in Delhi and further to radicalize and recruit Muslim youth of UP and other states, provide them weapon training, explosives and field craft, raising funds and collecting weapons.

"Initially, he and his two brothers were engaged in stone-pelting incidents. His brother, Ishfaq, was shot down in exchange of fire with security forces on 25 April 2018 in Pulwama along with two other Pak militants," said Kushwah.

He further said that his other brother, Showkat, also subsequently died in an exchange of fire with the security forces in September 2018 in Pulwama along with Usman Haider, the nephew of Maulana Masood Azhar and son of terrorist Ibrahim Azhar - younger brother of terrorist Masood Azhar and mastermind of IC-814 hijacking to Kandahar.

"Sajjad initially provided information about the movement of convoys and cordon and search operations carried by Army. Mudasir instructed him to spot young Kashmiri youths for fidayeen attacks. While on the day of Pulawama terror attack, Mudasir contacted Sajjad on Whatsapp and informed that they have carried out CRPF convoy attack. Mudasir then sent him the video of Adil Dar (fidayeen), which he deleted from his phone," said Kushwah.
