Amid nationwide excitement over the Balakot air strike, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the battle to opposition camps on Sunday, slamming them for seeking proof of the airstrikes and said they were indirectly helping Pakistan.

"Their photos and statements are being shown on Pakistani TV and they're talking about them," said Modi, referring to the Opposition. He called Pakistan "aatank ki factory" (factory of terror).

Addressing a huge gathering in Amethi, the home constituency of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, along with Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, PM Modi dedicated a unit that will manufacture AK-203, an advanced version of Kalashnikov AK-47.

India has signed a deal with a Russian firm to manufacture 7,50,000 of these assault rifles at Korwa ordinance factory that was established in 2010.

"One of the most advanced rifles in world AK-203 will be made in Amethi. It will be made by a joint-venture of India and Russia. I express my gratitude to my friend President Vladimir Putin. This venture was made possible in a short time by his support." . These rifles will be known as 'Made in Amethi' and will help our jawans in encounters with Naxals and terrorists, the PM added.

Modi went on to accuse the Congress of "compromising national security" by not addressing the demands of the defence forces. "Our brave security personnel were made to face the enemy without bulletproof jackets. The previous governments made our forces wait for modern ammunition and fighter aircraft."

Virtually pitching Union Minister Smriti Irani as the candidate against Rahul Gandhi, Modi said that though the people of Amethi did not vote for BJP, yet the BJP minister has kept nurturing Amethi like her own constituency and done much more than the sitting MP.

He put Amethi as the best example of his government's 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' (together with all, development for all) motto. "Those who voted for us and those who did not all are ours," he said.

This was Modi's first visit to Amethi since 2014. On an earlier occasion, he had visited Amethi on May 5, 2014 and the BJP, which had fielded Irani against Gandhi in last general election, had managed to get 3 lakh votes.
